COS4840 - Ontology Engineering

COS4840 Assignment 6

Lesson 6 overview

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of ontologies and their uses.
  • Critically analyse and evaluate existing ontologies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of techniques and methodologies for developing ontologies.
  • Use ontology development tools to develop new ontologies and adapt existing ones.
    • Build an ontology by converting a scenario to an ontology using concepts, attributes, many-to-many relations, cardinality constraints, domains, and ranges.

In this lesson you will build an ontology and use the knowledge you have gained in the module to answer a broad set of questions that relate to all the outcomes covered in the module.

For this purpose, there will be two timed assessments that you need to complete.

  1. Consider a given scenario and answer ontology engineering questions related to that scenario.
  2. Develop an ontology using the Protégé ontology development environment, based on the given scenario.

You should spend this lesson time preparing for the two assessments by reviewing all the work that you have done so far this year.
