UMC20230210 - God is here¶
I love reading business books. More specifically, I love reading business books surrounding corporate culture and how one can influence it. How can you change how your employees feel about the company? How can you encourage things like radical honesty, commitment, and openness? One sentiment that has stuck with me is the idea that if each employee acts as a "founder" of the company then you have one of the strongest cultures.
What does this mean? A founder doesn't only focus on their work, they have a company-wide awareness and are willing to take initiative. A founder doesn't ignore issues that they notice because it is "not their job". A founder has a part of their identity that lies in the company. A founder wants to solve issues, rather than complain about them because they care. A founder doesn't work in isolation but includes others. This is hard. It takes an incredibly present and intentional leader to move company culture toward this. And even then, not everyone will follow. But can you imagine a company where everyone behaved as if it were "theirs"? How would that change the company?
Since the end of last year, there has been this new energy coursing through our community. It feels as if God is here. There are many in our community that are acting as "founders". The new stewards are already making waves. June is leading a 100-year revival. The men's and women's fellowships are growing. Ferdi is reviving the home groups and what we do together. We are becoming a community that lives together, dreams together, enjoy each other's company together, corrects each other, encourages each other, prays together, and shares grief and pain together. This is a community that I want to be a part of.
God is here. God is amongst us. If you have ever needed permission to act as a "founder", here it is. Big or small, every single one of us is a builder of the kingdom of God.
Love,
Cliff
