UMC20221106 - A new energy¶
I recently had the privilege of going up to Johannesburg for matric marking and, for four days, I was immersed in a herd of IT teachers. It was really great because as an IT teacher, we are mostly one per school. While this may be great for controlling the standard of work in our departments, it makes for lonely teachers. We don’t have someone to work closely with and share ideas and troubles. So for four days we were all excitedly sharing woes and joys, new technologies and technologies we have left behind. I learnt so much about my subject, I made tons of new connections and we even planned inter-school events for next year. I am inspired!
What I have found in the week after marking is that my general perspective has shifted at work. I have a renewed appreciation for my principal, the management team and my students and the work that we are doing. I feel differently about my school and my place in it. I feel like we are moving forward and doing big things. Nothing at school has changed, but I have changed. God has filled my cup with new energy and new ideas.
It is important to break the routine of the everyday. We can often get lost in the “same old, same old” and not see the work around us as the privilege that it actually is. God uses these moments to reignite flames and give us rest. We see this in Jesus’ ministry as well, he often removes himself from his work to recharge and reconnect and comes back with renewed fire and strength.
When last did you break the routine? When last did you take time to fill your cup? Are you only giving? How long will that last before you burn out?
Love, Cliff
