A modern echo of Gnosticism where people believe their true identity is hidden inside, and salvation comes through self-discovery or inner experience, often rejecting bodily, political, or material realities.

In Practice Today: - “Be true to yourself” as a spiritual command - Elevation of experience over truth or Scripture - Disdain for creation, institutions, or the body - Present in both progressive spirituality and fundamentalist escapism
