Be a man

Be a man¶
Outdated ideas?¶
In his book Wild at Heart, John Eldridge makes some wild claims about masculinity and feminity vs the modern understanding of these concepts. His interpretation seems a bit outdated. A man is always the leader, likes guns, hunting and camping. A woman wants to be fought for, she wants to know she is a beauty and wants to be swept up in a man's adventure. Even though I disagreed with a lot of the writing, something kept me reading through to the end of the book.
The modern human¶
A lot of "modern" people live passive lives where procrastination is the norm and they don't take the time to discover what they want and what drives them. A lot of people do not live on purpose and settle with surviving through their days.
An awakened heart¶
Something about Eldrige's concept of masculinity as having a heart as that seeks adventure, that wants to be dangerous (in taking risks and challenge) and wants to fight to capture the attention of a beauty goes counter to this modern passivity that exists. There is definitely truth in the pages of his book, but maybe they are misplaced in the label of "masculinity". Maybe they should be placed under the label human? Either way, I am inspired to "be a man".
A quote that Eldridge lives by is:
- Find your soul
- Fight for your soul
- Fight for your marriage
- Fight for your desires
- Fight for presence
- Fight against your addictions
- Fight, be dangerous, awaken your deep self, come alive
