Notes¶
What is the goal of how you want to live?¶
What kind of day do you want to have? Do you want to be working at a full-speed, high intensity position that is high-stress, high-reward? Do you want to sleep well, be a master of your own time, think long, work hard during specified times, make/engineer software?
Multiscale planning¶
Have seasonal goals (strategic plans) Have weekly-plan Have daily time-block
Office hours/meeting blocks/project protocols to remove context switching¶
The biggest poison to deep work is context switching.
Have role-based task boards¶
This is different to planning when to do those tasks. Rather than having multiscale on a task level, have role boards that capture all your tasks. Then use the weekly plan to bring it into focus.
Fixed-schedule productivity (9-5)¶
- No waking up early
- Do gym in the morning
- Shut down in the evening
- Plan meeting times, don't just always do meetings
- Work hard during work time.
Task capture - green book¶
Dont let anything fall through the cracks
50/50 deep/shallow ratio¶
Automated scheduled tasks¶
Particularly for things that are known in advance that bite you in the ass, think marking and test setting. These should be done on Thursdays from 3-6.
Cultivate your media ingestion¶
Throughout the week, collect content to view and then have a specified time where you ingest these things. YouTube is awesome but it is also a black hole.
Work in progress limits¶
Move from initiation to completion. Get completions under your belt, don't half work on many things. 1 or 2 things that you are working on at a time.
